Elgin Cool Vines Expedition
Distinctive by Nature

The adventure begins! Inspired by a reverence for nature and a calling to create meaningful experiences for wine enthusiasts- this is more than an event – it’s a gathering of a like-minded community.

There is something magical about sharing good food and great wine in the fresh air, so why don’t you join us for a day of controversial conversations, great music and even better wine.

What you can expect

Grab your field-note booklet and Gabriel glass and head up to the lawn. Once settled in with a glass of your choice of wine, make your way to one of the three wine-Ed dome tents for in-depth themed conversations with some of Elgin’s quirkiest personalities and other wine experts. Not only will you taste through some of South Africa’s finest Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs but also experience how well Elgin’s wines age and the delight of some of our other cool-climate varieties.

Now that you’ve had enough food for thought, how about food for your belly? Canapes will be curated by Bertus Basson’s new restaurant, Bloem which is headed by the talented chef Carla Burger.

Lounge under the Oak trees while enjoying a farm style three course lunch by Leigh and Brendan Thorncroft from The Table. Our winemakers will spoil you with a glass or three from our larger format bottles and a tipple of older vintage gems.

Help yourself to another glass of something interesting from the open bar, gather your friends and groove to the contemporary live performance by saxophonist, Jamo Harrison.

Theme: Expeditioner / Vintage Explorer

Dress the part. This theme is inspired by the classic, adventurous look of explorers from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It combines old-world charm with the practicality of historical expeditions, drawing influences from safari expeditions, Victorian exploration, and early adventures in uncharted territories.

Here’s how to embody the style:

Colours
Stick to earthy, muted tones such as khaki, cream, brown, olive, and beige.

Fabrics
Use natural fabrics like linen, cotton and leather

Patterns
Add subtle plaids, pinstripes, or animal prints sparingly.

Outerwear
Tailored blazers or lightweight safari jackets. Riding boots, lace-up ankle boots, or oxfords. Wide-brimmed hats, silk scarves tied around the neck or as headbands. Leather gloves, belts, and crossbody satchels.
